Wuthering Heights is an extremely well-written and complexly structured novel It is the only novel written by the Victorian writer Emily Bronte besides her poems It is also considered highly original and deeply tragic This novel is about the relation between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff the orphan boy brought to Wuthering Heights and his tyrannical revenge excited on everybody for the rage and humiliation he suffers throughout his life The novel is based on a group of flashbacks which are organized chronologically and told by a number of narrators using first person point of view However it has no authorial guidance to its meaning The writer does not intrude in the narration to give any enlightenment about any character or event nor does she comment on anything We learn a lot about the nature morals and social class of each character indirectly through their narration and comments that begins from the first chapter 1801- I have just returned from a visit to my landlord - the solitary neighbor that I shall be troubled with From this quote of the first line of the novel the writer makes her writing technique clear for the readers First the type of narration seems to be established in first person Second it raises readers interest in the narrators landlord Third they wonder about the significance of the date This may imply that the novel will consist of flashbacks into the history of the house with its unfriendly tenants Fourth the first lines encourage the readers to identify with the narrator who is an ignorant outsider of the story - just as the readers This element of mystery adds suspense to the novel and promotes the readers to connect all events and characters in order to reveal it Fifth the language structures used are simple and clear they are of standard everyday speech Sixth these lines give a feeling of animation and movement which become obvious by the end of
