It is easy for people to casually say how they would react to any situation life may present However not all people are able to act in the manner that their heart is pulling them towards When the decision will affect the future many people will choose to remain silent and ignore their morals so they will not mess up the current status-quo Both Chris in the play All My Sons and Antigone in Antigone chose to follow their hearts and stay committed to their morals Although Chris and Antigone spoke out for their beliefs there are still differences in their situations which contributed to their outcome The moral dilemma that both Chris and Antigone face revolve around an immediate family member In Antigone the play opens with Antigone rushing over to her sister Ismene bearing the bad news that the king refuses to give one of their brothers a proper Greek burial Antigone in utter outrage proclaims that I will bury my brother And if I die for it what happiness page 128 Despite Ismenes pleas for Antigone to not risk her life Antigone believes that the morally correct thing to be done should be done no matter the consequences involved In the play All My Sons Chris too faces a tough family crisis Towards the end of the play Chris figures out that his fatherwho he loves and worshipsis guilty of killing twenty-one soldiers Similar to Antigone Chris chooses his moral over his love for his father Just as Antigone is dissuaded by Ismene so too Chris is strongly discouraged by his mother to follow through with his plan After Chris informs his mother of his fathers guilt his mother with a voice full of determination begs him Youre not going to take him Chris however ignores her pleas and brusquely retorts back Im taking him Chris believed that his morals are more important than his relationship with his father
