All men are created equal is clearly stated in the Declaration ofIndependence of the United States of America They have the right tolife liberty and the pursuit of happiness However this claim hasntalways rung true for some people throughout the history of the country A very good example of human rights violations in the history of theUnited States is slavery and how African Americans were treated up tothe 1960s before the Civil Rights Moevement Slavery started in the1600s in the country Slaves were brought by settlers to work theland They were thought of as a cheap labor source because they wereeasier to maintain and cheaper to keep overall First the coloniststried to use the natives to work the land but because they didnt wantto acquire the working skills Native Americans werent a suitable workforce Also they could escape into the woods since they wereafter-all native to the land This was inconvenient for the slave owners Their labor would have tobe replaced and that would cost money They also had indenturedservants but those were also not convenient to keep Once their servicetime ran out the servants would be released and new labor wasneededThe colonists needed something that they could get fast forlittle money and that would last a long time So they chose theAfricans They convinced them that they were inferior and that possiblylowered their resistance The slaves were treated terribly and inhumanely They were captured andbrought onto ships where they were beaten barely fed and crammed intotight spaces like sardines in a can The conditions were horrendous TheAfricans were treated worse than animals The treatment could beconsidered torture These people were stripped away of every humanright They had no freedom they had no happiness and they had nochance at a normal life The Middle Passage or part of the Atlantic Slave Trade was perhapsthe most tortuous journey that any human had to undertake in Americanhistory The slaves were packed onto the
