Karly Kolb SOC 232 LAB 4 Sociological Differences Between Men Women Blacks and Whites Have you ever wondered how you compare with the opposite sex in income level highest year of high school completed or occupational prestige If you are white or black have you ever thought about your equality I have researched the General Social Survey GSS from the 1996 data set and analyzed the significance of these specific variables The variables I am referring to are education level occupational prestige and income I will report my hypotheses on these variables and compare them with the actual data When I looked at the data for highest level of high school completed for males and females I would have thought that males would be more likely to finish high school This was in fact the case Males had a significantly higher level of high school completed I believe this is because of younger kids are experimenting with sex at a younger age This leads to younger girls becoming pregnant therefore not being able to finish high school Although the data shows that males have a higher level of completed high school years it is not by much t316 df2893 Sig002 When comparing the difference between males and females total income there was more of significance This is what I expected to find when I began researching these variables In society there is a stereotype that males automatically earn more than women In reality this is true Men reportedly earn more money per year than women t768 df2746 Sig0 Men and women are pretty even when it comes to occupational prestige According to the GSS in 1996 there was no significance between mens occupational prestige and womens occupational prestige Again I would have thought that men would have had a slightly higher level of occupational prestige but I guess that goes to show us that women are coming up in
