Stereotypes are caused by generalizing certain action to a particular people most of the time based on assumption Stereotyping can also be as a result of misconception media profiling biases and other things believed to be common characteristics of a particular group For that reason a stereotype leads to discrimination violence education and low self-esteem in the society Hence stereotypes have done more damage in our society than any good The first and common bad effect of stereotyping is discrimination Stereotyping of a particular group in our midst has led to discriminating that particular group For example the media often links terrorism with a Muslim way of life thus Muslims are not allowed to build their place of worship in certain places In some America neighborhoods people are afraid to have mosques around them Another example stereotyping that black people is more likely to commit crime than other ethnic group Therefore the reason why there are more black people in American prison than any other ethnic group The third example of discrimination is when people avoid black men because their friendsmedia or parent tell them that black people are dangerous and should be avoided The second bad effect of stereotyping is violence Sever times in the history of America people have gone into fight because they could not handle how they were treated or seen For example LA 1992 riot as a cause of the white police men who beat a black guy in the Rodney king nearly to dead brought violence to the city Another example of violence caused by stereotyping was the early 1990s rioting in South Africa where a good number of human beings were killed The violence boiled down because of the stereotyping of whites that blacks are criminals and not to live with whites in same neighborhoods
