Success is translated to me as an individual who springs from zero and makes hisher way to one hundred through hard work struggle and sacrifice Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey are two people that would most intently fit my idea of successful They both arose from poor modest backgrounds and through their drive persistence and determination became some of the most influential people of their timeBarack Obama the 44th president of the United States was born on August 4 1961 to parents Barack Obama Sr and Stanley Ann Dunham Meeting as young college students at the University of Hawaii Obamas father soon left for Harvard leaving him and his mother behind Barack Obama Sr later returned alone to Kenya where he work as a government economist Baracks mother remarried to an Indonesian oil manager and later moved to Jakarta when he was six years old According to Barack Indonesia was a lush and harrowing exposure to tropical poverty He then later returned to Hawaii where he was brought up by his maternal grandparents Madelyn and Stanley Dunham They lived in a small apartment making low income salaries however Barack still managed to get into one of Hawaiis top preparatory academies Obama later attended Columbia University but found new yorks racial tension inescapable He became a community organizer for a small Chicago church based group for three years then later attended Harvard law school and in 1990 became the first African American editor of the Harvard law review He later turned down a prestigious judicial clerkship choosing instead to practice civil rights laws back in ChicagoObama also began teaching at the University of Chicago law school and married his fellow attorney Michelle Robinson Eventually he was elected to the Illinois State senate where his district included Hyde park and some of the poorest ghettos in the South side In 2004 Obama was elected to the US Senate as a democrat representing Illinois where he gained
