AbstractSuicide-by-cop A colloquial term used to describe a suicidal incident whereby the suicidal subject engages in a consciously life-threatening behavior to the degree that it compels a police officer to respond with deadly force Police assisted suicide has increased over the past few years What was formerly known as a complex and puzzling occurrence has become a national trend An analysis of data from different research projects reveals that while police assisted suicide has received some law enforcement attention it has routinely been considered rare This research acknowledges the need for the law enforcement profession to take notice of this growing trend of police assisted suicide It offers law enforcement managers a way to start prevention training response and investigation of police assisted suicides Law enforcements reaction to this over the next five years will lay the foundation for societys perception of and reaction to police assisted suicide in the future Cries for help that go too farThe increase in police assisted suicideEvery once in a while when you turn on the TV you hear about a shooting and you think to yourself that theres no way it was warranted and that the police are okay with and sometimes even like shooting people But then a few days later when they rehash the story you find out that the person was running through down town waving a gun around threating to shoot people the police shot him to keep the people safe and after an investigation in to the mans life reviled that he was depressed but could not bring himself to commit suicide so he made the police do it for him This phenomenon is called Suicide-by-cop You also here stories like the case of Kevin R King This May he opened the door to the police holding what looked like a 22 caliber rifle earlier Police had been notified by the local rehab center who had recently released King that he was
