IntroductionMany adult children are fearful that their aging parents are going to run out of money and that they will be burdened with paying for their parents expenses Most people do not have the means to pay for extended long term help as they age into their 80s 90s and beyond Studies show that 36 of Americans have saved nothing for retirement Having parents until late adulthood has become a normal life situation thus this situation brings new roles expectations and potential sources of support but also sources of conict and strain As the population ages health care workers and families nd themselves involved in situations involving decisions about nursing home placements This topic is related to family resource management because at some point in our lives all of us will need to figure out what do when our parents can no longer take care of themselves and figure out what resources are available to us We will have to think about financial issues housing arrangements time management etc The reason I am interested in this topic is because I volunteer at a Hospice and I see the struggles that families go through when deciding whether they should take care of their loved ones at home or if they should put them in an assisted living facility andor a nursing home Another reason why I find this topic interesting is because I know that eventually my own parents will not be able to take care of themselves and I will be put in a situation where I have to decide how I will take care of my parents HistoryHumans are inherently caring and this leads us to believe that for as long as there have been people on this earth there has been senior care This section will cover evidence for senior care from the Prehistoric age all the way to the 21st century Common Era Earlier this year archaeologists in Spain found the bones
