The age of eighteen is a time where doors begin to open for many new adults to vast number of opportunities The history of tattooing has flourished from a tribal origin to a variety of meanings today There has been some discussion of whether or not tattooing has began to lose the deeply rooted meaning and representation of the image and how it is seen to possibly have an addictive nature Tattoos as a whole are not addictive however they are highly abused through compulsive behavior Through it is physically unlikely to be dependent on tattoos one can take the process and lifestyle of tattooing to be therapeutic a form of art and history book The process of getting a tattoo is not only emotional it is also physiological as well While getting a tattoo the pain travels through the Sympathetic Nervous System a part that is responsible for triggering the fight-or-flight response which releases adrenaline in response to the pain 15 Reasons The heighted experience of excess adrenaline can be one of the factors that draw people back into getting a tattoo The body also releases endorphin a natural pain-relief that allows the one to surrender to a natural high 15 Reasons Once the first response of adrenaline is exerted the body will try and numb the pain of the needle by increasing its endorphins Tattoos Addictive Although one chemical enhances senses and the other dulls both chemicals are released throughout the tattooing process creating a therapeutic experience for the receiver The process itself is not addictive yet people can become addicted to their adrenaline and endorphins releasing in excess amounts Can IAccording to Colleen McSwenney Just in the past decade tattooing has transformed from predominantly an act of rebellion to an increasingly popular act of self-expression The trend in tattooing has become a psychological choice of expressing their memories or emotions onto themselves for the world to see
