David Lazarus in his article Tax junk food Fight obesity one penny at a time on February 252011 in the Los Angeles Times makes the point that there is an obesity epidemic and by issuing a sin tax on sugared drinks and junk food this tax money could alleviate some of the epidemic and support the communitys physical health Lazarus reports about a lawmaker in California trying to pass a tax on the artificial sweeteners soda and corn syrup The money from this tax might help eliminate some of the obesity epidemic Lazarus also states that other prominent sin taxes on tobacco and alcohol are to make products less attractive by making them more expensive While Lazarus recognizes that parents and other people have a choice that the sin tax on surgery drinks and junk food might help the obesity epidemic he makes a point that McDonalds and other fast food restaurants should put a sin tax on anything over 500 calories The money from this sin tax would go toward activities for schools and nonprofit organizations and the money used from fast food chains would be put toward bike paths basketball courts and fitness places around the countryThe article Tax Junk Food has many points with which I do not agree and some with which I do The article talks a lot about obesity how it has become a problem in the US Many people believe we should have what is called a sin tax on all junk food and fast food Because of this fast food the people are consuming too many calories and these people should be taxed for the food they decided to eat The money which would be coming in from this sin tax would be used to make things for people such as basketball courts and bike paths Some of the money may even go to have insurances cover gym member ships for people Some people however I do
