The land of opportunity the land of the American dream America has long been the place where a prosperous life and future is possible Emerging from the First World War America experienced an unprecedented period of economic prosperity The US was not just economically strong but it was also experiencing a shift in social and cultural changes From the firm economy to the rise of new attitudes and beliefs America during the post-world war era was robust and progressing even after a devastating first world war It seemed as though no goal was impossible and achieving the American dream of financial stability was foreseeable However the goal of such a dream was tarnished when the once roaring twenties came to an abrupt end The 1929 Stock Market Crash not only ended the economic boom of the twenties but it also dampened the spirits of many Americans and their belief in and accessibility of the American dreamPrior to the stock market crash the US returned from WWI and entered the 1920s with great financial stability and optimism Although government defense contracts with industries that sustained the economic growth during WWI expired the post-war US economy was not just sound but thriving The First World War created an economic backbone that gave many Americans a sense of financial reassurance With the economic boom the majority of Americans experienced a higher quality of life due to greater income The 1920s prosperity enabled many Americans to buy goods and products more frequently thereby increasing the industrial output and middle-class As Europe was in the process of rebuilding and in need of supplies and aid American industries that supplied the aid during WWI continued to do so after the war As a result industries expanded and the national unemployment rate was under 5 Overall the end of WWI and the decade that followed created a thriving economy as well as an optimistic society Americans
