What makes a good man give up his morals and convictions to pursue people and things that will not fulfill his longing to achieve the American dream Perhaps falling in love with the most sought after woman in Louisville Once Jay Gatsby meets Daisy Fay he knows if he has her he can achieve anything One of Gatsbys main issues is that he thinks you can repeat the past without complications In F Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby Gatsby was born pure but the pursuit of the American dream corrupted him through his infatuation with Daisy his desire for wealth and his need to fit in with the upper class Gatsby is so consumed in his love for Daisy he does not realize she is corrupting him When Daisy starts corrupting Gatsbys dream she has painted the picture of a perfect life for Gatsby There must have been moments even that afternoon whenDaisytumbled short of his dreams not through her own fault but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion 92 Daisy sometimes cannot keep up with Gatsby and his dream because he has such unrealistic expectations Daisy is also very selfish and once she finds out that Gatsby cannot provide her the perfect life and reputation she cowers awayDaisy is very vain she does what she has to do to protect her own skin and would not even glance at Gatsby if she first knew he was dirt poor Gatsby knows that he has to acquire wealth to eventually win Daisy Gatsby reinvents himself as a man with wealth and power he makes himself into another kind of nobility a family that actually has achieved the American dream of wealth and respectability through hard work5 Gatsby needed money and the only way to get it was to become a bootlegger which eventually is one of the reasons Daisy will not run away with himEven though Gatsby gets the wealth he still does
