In todays world the American Dream can be defined as how and what makes a happy life People desire equality wealth and happiness Some people believe that the American Dream is impossible to achieve because people are never satisfied people are selfish and are always wanting more than what they already have The American Dream today has altered from what it was like hundreds of years ago Compared to todays vision of the American Dream the visions of the characters in Steinbecks novel Of Mice and Men are more similar to todays vision than the characters in Rowlandsons Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs Mary Rowlandson The characters in Of Mice and Men desire wealth happiness and freedom The visions of the American Dream in Of Mice and Men maybe similar to that of Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs Mary Rowlandson but they are also different These two pieces of work are similar because the characters in both stories live a life of uncertainty and desire freedom but are different because of the way they try to achieve their American DreamIn Steinbecks Of Mice and Men and Rowlandsons Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs Rowlandson the American Dream is to live a happy and successful life but the characters in both pieces of work live a life of uncertainty In Of Mice and Men main characters George and Lennie move from farm to farm looking for work to save up for their dream ranch Every time they move to a new working farm they have no idea what lays in store for them or what the working conditions may be like In the novel Lennie shows obvious signs of having a mental disability In the beginning of the novel Lennie says Where we goin GeorgeI forgot Steinbeck 4 Because Lennie is always forgetting things it puts pressure on George to always have to look out for him In
