Graffiti Art Basically when I look around I see people living in a modern day Babylon full of temptation sin destruction corruption injustice and misguided fools being drained mentally It seems to me the only way to wake up from this kind of numbness is to destroy what they know their business and their biggest place of gathering the cities Put it on their trains on the lines they take to work every day on their rooftops on their highways on anything just to make sure people realize their culture isnt lost and that at the very least a small group of kids and adults fighting to keep graffiti art alive The word Graffiti simply means-words or drawings scratched or scribbled on a wall The word comes from the Greek term graphein to write and the Italian word graffito Phillips 42 Art in the form of Graffiti that appears on public or private property without permission originated in the late 1960s but graffiti in terms of public and unsolicited markings has been around forever Some say it represents mans desire and need for communication and the history of this type of communication dates back to one of the first communicative drawings like writing on cave walls As tagging and graffiti art started blowing up in the early 70s mayors in every town started cracking down on graffiti Big cities with subway cars said We were proud of our citys subway cars It took a lot of talking to a lot of committees to get these subways accomplished and then the kids start to deface them Cooper 46 Now 2 there are some interesting points to be made about kids defacing property You see it is much more complex then just defacing there are many ways to deface things One type is the individual marks slogans or political statements usually found on bathroom walls and stalls or on other exterior surfaces Some refer
