There is a beast in everyone It lives inside each and every one of us However the beast expresses itself at different times Whether a person is very patient and understanding or hotheaded and quick-tempered the beast will find its way out and affect those who are around to witness it William Golding author of Lord of the Flies is telling the reader that no matter how hard a person tries to hide it there will always be some sort of a beast inside of them In the book there are two characters that are distinctly different from each other yet they both have a beast inside of them Their names are Jack and PiggyJack is a very controlling person He is very power-hungry he needs rules and he wants to be the enforcer Jack also likes to humiliate people to make himself feel more powerful Jack also portrays a fake image The conch doesnt count on top of the mountain so you shut up Golding 42 In order to feel more powerful Jack will make up rules as he goes along This angers some of the other boys but Jack does not care Jack does whatever he wants when he wants to do it and not one person stands up to him On the other hand Jack also has a sweet side to him He provided emotional assurance to the younger boys There isnt a snake-thing but if there was a snake wed hunt it and kill it Golding 36 Jack also has another side to him He does not feel comfortable around nature Jack interacts with nature violently He does not let anything stand in his way and he likes being the big tough strong guyPiggy however is a pushover He tries to be heard but no one really listens to him I got the conch just you listen Golding 45 When Piggy gets frustrated it is not really that big of a
