The internet A place filled with endless knowledge and a dumping ground for the most random things imaginable The phrase the internet has been given a bad rap within popular culture known only as a place where pornography and sex offenders roam rampant and not as a vast domain with endless possibilities Because of this negative connotation I am hesitant to call the internet my home But if I am to be true to myself and honest to you the reader I have to rise above the stigma and expose the truth I am obligated to defend the web and all its glory I must share my knowledge and experiences as to pave the way for future generations The internet is your friend as it has been mine these past few yearsDramatics aside I do find it necessary to explain my reasons for loving the internet Within the past year itself I have found myself learning more about politics and world happenings from the web than I have in school itself When the rulings on Prop 8 and DOMA Defense of Marriage Act were released in June 2013 Tumblr posts and CNN alerts kept me aware and informed of the implications the two had on the rights of homosexuals When the Sandy Hook tragedy occurred I found myself googling gun control and using my research to form an educated opinion The internet was even my go-to pal for royal baby updates The usefulness of the internet is often forgotten when faced against the in the 1s and 0s despite this one only has to look and the webs purpose can be found in an instantThe main reason I often find myself most at ease while online is the plethora of like-minded people and the multitude of diverse ideas and opinions at my fingertips The internet is a place where I have found a group of individuals that have allowed me to not only speak my
