Reality television is purely for entertainment and nothing more Television series have transformed through out the years and now we have a wide variety of different kinds of shows Reality shows such as the Biggest Loser are shows that are staged and set up to make it seem like it is real when really it is not real The Biggest Loser is one of the most successful reality shows produced by television It is successful because a large portion of the viewers is overweight like its contestants It is aired on NBC and started in 2005 The contestants are obese Americans who want to change their life styles and become healthy They leave their lives at home and devote their life to loosing weight In this paper I will examine the popular TV series The Biggest Loser and how it sends a false message to society about reaching long-term weight-loss and living a healthy lifestyleIn society it is more socially acceptable to be fit than over weight Fat is considered to be unhealthy With all the media focused on being fit and skinny where does that leave the over weight people TV presents more fit people than over weight people With that being said The Biggest Loser got a lot of rave when they first aired It is a show that over weight people could be apart of American is known as having an obese population compared to other countries Our ideas of proportions are well over what we should be eating With all the temptations of food in our society people have significantly gained an unhealthy amount of weight The Biggest Loser is a show that allows overweight people at home to relate to the contestants on TV Each contestant has a story and that story is incorporated into the show and makes it much more dramatic Each contestant has a struggle that they must overcome and that what makes for great television
