There are different opinions in this world The way that people think of different ideas and theories differ from one another Everyone does not have the same opinion but it can help if people learn to become open-minded Being open to opinions other than your own is a learning experience because you have to listen to something that you dont necessarily agree with Listening and taking in others perspectives can help broaden your own perspective and challenge your ideas and thoughts Growing up I have learned many Bible stories and developed my own perspective of what the text has meant but in order for me to criticize the text I need to listen to other peoples translations One opinion I read was from Ellen Davis concerning the story of Abraham and his son Isaac I thought about her essay and had many different opinions on her ideasI enjoyed reading her essay because I could read through her paper her passion and strong views on the topic I liked reading about someone elses ideas other than my own The way she tries to dissect the way that God and Abraham were thinking captivates me I have never thought about the idea that sacrificing your own son was normal and not ordinary She talks about how God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son but Abraham never questions God and God never accuses Abraham of misinterpreting his mind Davis has many intelligent ideas After reading her article I still feel the same about this story in the Bible I have given this text more thought and refined my idea but I havent completely changed my opinion I like that she was able to help me broaden my perspective and refine it I try to not let people change what I think but I do allow them to help me expand my horizon of knowledge I agree with many of her ideas such as the idea that humans free
