Though there were many talented African-American musicians there were none who quite influenced the world of jazz like Louis Armstrong Louis Armstrong was born August 4th 1901 in New Orleans Louisiana He was a talented cornet and trumpet player and was famous for his unique singing voice Though he was discriminated against due to his skin color he continued to follow his dreams of being a musician Louis Armstrong was born on August 4th 1901 into a poor family He went a reform school from the age of twelve until fourteen To support his impoverished family Armstrong took on small jobs such as unloading boats singing on street corners and selling paper Though he did not own an instrument then he enjoyed listening to music and got inspiration from listening to bands in his spare time Joe King Oliver was a person who greatly impacted Armstrongs future He provided Armstrong with his own cornet and even taught him how to play it Armstrong joined Kid Orys band with was a famous band in New Orleans This lead up to Armstrong being invited by Oliver to play the cornet in the Creole Jazz band which was just the beginning of Armstrongs long and successful career Louis Armstrong was best known for his singing voice which had a raspy quality to it This made his voice suitable for jazz pieces He was also famous for being a remarkable trumpet and cornet player two brass instruments that were commonly played in jazz Armstrong also gave other African Americans courage to follow their dreams like he did even in those prejudiced times He was in hundreds of concerts annually made guest appearances in tens of movies and composed and recorded dozens of popular songs that are still listened to todayArmstrong played a vital part in music in the 1900s Though he lived a century ago he altered the entire meaning of jazz for future generations Though he
