This exhibition addresses Christine McHorses journey as an artist focusing upon her work of art from 1997 to the present Her collection of clay pottery was displayed in the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Arts which is available for public viewing from February 26 2013 through May 26 2013 This museum exhibit featureseighteen ceramic pots individually displayed in a glass enclosure Christine McHorses collection includes the following Spider Trap 2006 Linkage 2005 Nautilus 2006 Inversion 2010 Black Swan 2006 Rolled Rose 2010 Multiplicity 2010 Spine 2010 Spiral 2005 Spontaneous Combustion 2011 Horns 2009 Vesuvius 2006 Spatial Concerto 2012 Black Teapot 2010 Free Radical 2012 Double Rain Bird 1997 Fountain 2010 and Germination 2009Christine McHorse was born in Morenci Greenlee County Southeastern Arizona in 1948 She was the fifth child of the nine very talented children McHorse grew up in an environment of creative ideas with incredible supervision from her parents We were encouraged to exercise our minds and to invent without fear noted McHorse The family motto was boredom should not exist McHorse attended a public school in Clifton a town few miles from her home town where she described the local school as mixed white black and brown but her and her siblings and those of her fathers niece were the only American Indians In 1963 while a sophomore at high school Christine McHorses sisters persuaded their parents to grant their fourteen-year-old daughter to join them at Institute of American Indian Arts IAIA a controversial high school for the arts in Santa Fe McHorse recalls an institution than then was more a refuge than a school McHorse had mentioned in an interview Many of us were using the school to escape rather than looking for an education At IAIA she met her future husband Joel P Mchorse who was a fellow art student She decided that she wants to study ceramics jewelry foundry arts design and even attempted painting She graduated in 1966 and then
