The Painter of Signs By R K Narayan So simple is the word yet so complex So little it seems yet so deep Very distant it may seem but resides within every heart It is nothing other than Love The love that a mother has for her child the love that a hungry person has for food the love that Romeo and Juliet shared The love between these two eternal lovers was true It is very hard to find true love in this world Most of the time people get hurt because the person they love more than anything else ditches them The novel The Painter of Signs by R K Narayan is a story of a painter Raman who is ditched by the love of his life Daisy Raman blindly falls in love with Daisy and does not care about anything else except for her Daisy being a family planning propagationist values her mission more than Ramans love and leaves him at the end to carry on her aim This not only leaves Raman all alone but he also loses his only relative his aunt Thus Ramans blind love for Daisy brings isolation for Raman hurts him and makes him lose his trust in love Raman is left all alone when Daisy leaves him to pursue her aim of family planning Daisy being a family planning propagationist becomes very unpopular among the women of Malgudi Her background is not known The rumours say that she is a run-away girl In the city of Malgudi which is quite narrow-minded a girl living all by herself whose background is not known is considered a great issue Ramans regular visits to Daisys place become a hot topic of discussion He starts becoming cut-off from rest of the people of Malgudi in order to avoid hearing rumours about Daisy and him Daisy is also believed to be a Christian as her name is English On
