--Originally Used In Maine South English Class 50101-- Since the dawn of mans ability to communicate and regale one another with story the figurative tool of irony has been a staple to the successful entertainer Irony though easy to appreciate is a difficult nuance to grasp and many times more to befittingly integrate it into ones prose For this reason Shakespeares work notably that of Romeo and Juliet is an extremely impressive play a showcase of Shakespeares divine structure Exquisite irony layers and embeds itself seamlessly within the tragic love story so much so that when fully noticed in its staggering whole the mind is left in awe at the sheer cleverly camouflaged amount that only reveals itself upon further inspection The irony that is revealed as the intentions of the plays cast accomplish the pure opposite of their original purpose through complex schemes of misunderstanding poor timing and damned fate are seem most significantly in the cases of the Friar the male members of the Capulet family and amongst the pair of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence is a creature for whom any audience must give sympathy towards Despite his pristine intentions his interference amongst the other characters results in the majority of hardship which they must suffer While working amongst the plants of his garden he speaks to himself saying Nor aught so good but strained from that fair use Revolts from true birth stumbling on abuse Virtue itself turns vice being misapplied And vice sometimes by action dignified III II 20-24 This line provides perfect definition to the contributions of Friar Lawrence and mostly every character there on to this play Friar Lawrence intends to end the hostilities of the Capulets and Montagues when he marries Romeo and Juliet believing this fair alliance may so prove To turn your households rancour to pure loveIIIII93-94 Of course his sweet purpose has bitter results as he only serves
