AbstractLearning which is the goal of schooling is a complex process There are various definitions which are used in defining this concept However the important fact is that learning is a process of acquiring knowledge or skills through study experiences or teaching Quality learning is usually accomplished through effective classroom and teaching approaches It is in this light that teaching becomes a core component towards achieving academic objectives There are various teaching approaches which are use to enhance learning One of the common approaches which are used is the structured classroom approach DuFour 2006 With recent increase in the number of institutions which do not have reported low academic performance there is need to establish the causes of these problems Eggen Kauchak 2006 Research has consistently indicated that the way classroom environment is arranged influences the learning of individuals Thus whether students are served in general education settings self contained settings or any combination of locations an organized classroom is the first place to start A students participation may currently be limited due to a student not understanding what is expected of him or her in a specific area of the classroom or during an instructional activity It is important to take cognizance of the fact that an organized classroom with defined areas and spaces can assist a student in anticipating the requirements of a specific setting and to predict what will happen in an instructional setting Melvin 2011 This reduces stress of the student drastically and allows the student the freedom to make better choices as well as possibly limiting any hindering behavior In essence studies have revealed that there is a positive correlation between structured classroom approaches and high academic performance This study seeks to evaluate the effects of high academic achievement alongside structured teaching approaches Key words Learning structured classroom learning approaches academic achievement IntroductionTeachers beliefs practices and attitudes are important for enhanced teaching and learning approaches
