Myths- they are spread across cultures and throughout time But what are they really Are they just simple stories that we pass along or are they something more Some would say that myths give audiences aspirations and dreams- but why Why do we really need a story to do that for us And how do myths even do thatWriters and historians alike create heroes out of characters in both myths and classic history In doing so they make figures for the average person to look up to Those characters encourage audiences to hope for something greater to achieve like their heroes accomplished For example Americans have created myths in their culture to introduce a greater American hero to the public One example is Helen Keller Even teachers like writers point childrens focus to her strength in overcoming disability blinddeaf Writers often idolize these figures to promote a certain positive aspect like Kellers strength through trials However writers leave out parts that do not completely agree with the positive History books and their teachers fail to mention that Helen Keller was a strong socialist- something that Americans would not want to promote By doing this writers are giving the impression that having a hero is more important than knowing all the facts Although having untrue heroes is not ideal there are some arguments that could be made by writers that deserve to be heard First everyone should have a hero to aspire to be Making heroes is not always a bad thing People can aspire to gain the admirable qualities that they see in their heroes becoming more than just the average person But the hero loses its quality when you take away their flaws and boost them higher than reality and into the realm of myths Having a flawed hero keeps audiences aware of reality but also reminds them that some things are attainable even for someone who is not perfect However writers rarely include
