Since the 911 attack and following economic depression the society has begun to take cynical approach to look at the government and community Americans lost trust in the government and in our neighbors As a result Americans started to make heroes and even fictional antiheroes to psychologically depend on them for safety During this shift of what people think at heroes the society has forgotten true characteristics of heroes The society has been mislabeling sport superstars rappers wealthy executives and such individuals as heroes Surely they are admirable individuals but they often do not qualify as heroes that the society really needs Heroes are brave individuals who if necessary even sacrifice their wealth and health fight against their evil counterparts to ensure safety of citizens or to secure moral ideologyUntil the 911 attack the society had long forgotten one type of heroes that the society takes for granted firefighters Although it has been long accepted that firefighters are heroes the society has become oblivious to what firefighters exactly do beside their existence Firefighters standby day and night for calls of citizens in hazardous accidents Undeniably it is firefighters duties and responsibilities to save people and their families from accidents but they act beyond their responsibilities If necessary they sacrifice their own lives to save citizens Firefighters sacrificing their lives to save others are frequently told stories These firefighters represent firefighters waiting in our community for accidents to happen to fight against The society started to recognize these heroic characteristics of firefighters after the horrible 911 attack Firefighters deserve to be labeled as American heroes Amidst the fear and distrust in our society and confusion of what heroes are such brave and selfless acts not only attribute firefighters as true heroes but also inspire others as moral role modelsJust as people feel safe and happy when firefighters succeed in taking down fire Americans achieve this feeling of catharsis when good triumphs bad Donnelly the author of
