As I sat in one of my high school classes I listened as yet another students test score was revealed and it was definitely less than satisfactory Throughout all my years of schooling I have realized quite a few things about whether or not everyone can be taught In my opinion it comes down to three points people only want to learn when they need to know something for their wellbeing other times people dont want to do all the work involved to learn and it is our duty to try and become more knowledgeable The points I am going to talk about should be important to everyone because it has to do with our society and how we tend to view education and its importanceTo begin with it is my view that often people are only trying to learn and be taught when it corresponds with their life and themselves In Platos Allegory of the Cave Plato questions if the prisoners would learn when freed and let outside Further once in the sunlight would he not require additional time for his eyes to acclimate to the sun leaving his mind again in a fog httpwwwslidesharenetguest71fae1an-analysis-and-interpretation-of-platos-allegory-of-the-cave-1416697 When reading this quote it makes me think that some people only learn when they have to for their well-being The prisoners had to learn about the sun it was something new in their life that they were not yet accustomed to Therefore being taught about life outside the cave was almost a mandatory learning experience They were only taught about it because it came into their life and were forced to deal with it Another idea that I have been churning over in my head is that people dont want to work to learn therefore they pretty much choose not to be taught According to Aristotle The roots of education are bitter but the
