Throughout 1970s there was not enough awareness in Canadian society in regards to problems associated with the police and radicalized groups Satzewich Shaffir 2009 Based on Report of the Commission on Systemic Racism in the Ontario Criminal Justice System meansRacialization is the process by which societies construct races as real different and unequal in ways that matter to economic political and social life This term is widely preferred over descriptions such as racial minority visible minority or person of colour as it expresses race as a social construct rather than as a description of persons based on perceived characteristics Page 40The earlier standpoint of policing and racialization was introduced in the 80s In Canada sociologist and criminologist started to pay attention to the matter of racialization and police enforcements Many police activities and behaviors such as racial profiling could result in racism Racial profiling happens when law enforcement either consciously or unconsciously discriminate individuals based on various factors instead of suspecting an individual based on reasonable ground Some of the above factors are ethnicity culture race place of birth aboriginality religion and the negative stereotypes attached with any of these factors Satzewich Shaffir 2009 Therefore Canadian police are component of racist behaviors which can even led to violent and deadly results For instance between the years of 1988 and 1992 police killed 8 young people of Caribbean origin Canadian Race 2000 However police boards deny the existence of racial profiling in Canada These denials can be part of a bigger picture of democratic racism Satzewich Shaffir 2009 In this paper first democratic racism among police enforcement is discussed Secondly the negative impact of racialized behavior on minorities is studied And finally some solutions to avoid racist behaviors among police officers will be introduced In 2002 The Toronto Starts began a series of articles based on surveys and statistical results that suggested the police of Toronto were
