There is a large racial achievement gap in the city of Minneapolis for example only 34 of Hispanic students graduated in 2011 compared to 67 of white students Minnesota Overall Hennepin County had a graduation rate of 65 in 2011 Webber While that was a couple years ago not much has changed since then Those numbers are less than desirable and some advances need to be made in order to sustain a graduation and achievement rate for all races In order to close the racial performance gap we need to make early childhood learning facilities easier to access for welfare recipients make sure teachers are enthusiastic about teaching all of their students and raise minimum wage in Minnesota for the teenagers who help to support their families For starters there are only a few places that offer early childhood education in North Minneapolis Early education is one of the most important things for success later in life Generally children who attend preschool or learning-infused daycare have a higher chance of achievement Since Minneapolis is all one city we have been seeing the opportunities for early childhood education as equal for everyone in the city of Minneapolis this effect is called institutional racism However since Minneapolis is quite a large city with many neighborhoods and income levels not all child developmental centers are available to everyone Next teachers should excite children about learning Not that teachers dont already have enough on their plate but if they go into class without a good attitude about the subject neither will the students Children that are in a minority group have a very good chance of being labelled as stupid unethustactic or just a bad kid Labeling theory will domino from that where kids will see how others label them and start to act how they think a person with that label would Suddenly all those students that had potential fail classes drop out or dont care anymore However
