Whats cooler than being cool The popular Outkast lyrics explain a teenagers mind perfectly Teenagers want to have the newest technology wear the newest clothes or act in the coolest way Teenagers will go to extremes to be popular or hangout with the coolest crowd in school The main way for teenagers to find out what is new and popular is through the media For decades teenagers have been turning to MTV to see what the latest trends are or what songs are at the top of the charts Even some of our parents remember watching MTV to learn the newest dance move or learn what the newest fashion trends were There was nothing wrong with this type of teenage guidance until the 2000s when MTV took a turn in the complete opposite direction The channel started broadcasting shows like MTV Cribs Super Sweet Sixteen and Sixteen and Pregnant These shows started teaching teenagers to have materialistic or egotistic mindsets The worst of these shows was the oddly popular Sixteen and Pregnant The show was based off episodes that showed the daily life of a teenage mother Sixteen and Pregnant idolized the mothers and gave American teenagers a skewed view of life as a parent At the beginning of the 2000s MTV had claimed to promote shows that displayed real stories of accomplishments of young adults around America The president of programming stated Our new shows will feature themes of affirmation and accomplishment 16 and Pregnant follows six young women going through an immensely life-changing experience at such a young age The president Tony DiSanto was correct in his statement but the show did not focus as heavily on the hardships of the six young women as it should have DiSanto said Our new shows will feature themes of affirmation and accomplishment the shows definitely focused strongly on the positive outcomes of the teenage mothers 16 and Pregnant showed not only the troubles each
