The effectiveness of a Guanxi of any relationship can be evaluated considering trust and feeling between parties In order to assess how material rewards and social obligations influence the quality of my work relationships I will explore my trust and feeling for the other party in three different relationships at work 1 based solely on material rewards 2 based solely on social obligations and 3 one that includes aspects of both social and monetary rewards For 1 I will describe my relationship with my current manager JL who is the person to determine my end-of-project bonus and I do not have a close relationship in or outside work environment for 2 I will explore how I coached a new employee from a different department HP that needed some help at his first months at the company even if I was not being paid at all for that activity and to illustrate 3 I will talk about how I relate to my current boss MH who not only is responsible for ultimately approving my annual bonus but also became friends with part of familyI work as a consultant in a management consulting firm and our end-of-project bonus are first proposed by the project manager and then approved by the partner responsible for that given project We change teams every 3-6 months which makes harder to create a solid relationship between team members Currently I am working for JL who is managing me for the first time On one hand he seems to be competent to accomplish his work so far he delivered all presentations on time none of the team members felt over loaded and our client complemented our project several times Additionally he has been quite comprehensive about how much time I can dedicate to the project while I am enrolled in the Duke MBA program On the other hand we barely talk about our personal lives or any concerns not related to work
