Pollution has been prevalent on Earth since million of years ago but it is not until the industrial revolution did pollution reached a far greater scale than ever before in history The idea of mass production led to widespread depletion of natural resources and increased emissions of carbon dioxide and other chemicals Pollution is a serious topic of discussion and has led us to question whether it is ethical or not to be performing some of the things we do The effects of these environmental emissions have proven to be hazardous to the human population and can result in respiratory diseases after continued exposureAir pollution is directly linked to asthma Cases of bronchial asthma have been increasing especially in industrialized urban cities A sugarcane producing city in Brazil experienced a 50 higher number of asthma hospitalizations when sugarcane straw was burned than when it wasnt Arbex 2012 In contrast when there is less pollution in the atmosphere causes of asthma decreased dramatically During the Olympic games in Atlanta USA when traffic dropped by 22 there was a 40 reduction in asthma related consultations among children and an 11-19 decrease in the number of hospital visits related to asthma Arbex 2012 When traffic decreased air pollutants also decreased nitrogen lowered by 7 ozone by 28 and carbon dioxide by 19 Areas with high ozone concentration are also directly correlated to risk of having asthma Children who play three or more sports are 33 times more likely to develop asthma than those who dont play any sports When children play outdoors they are inhaling large quantities of ozone causing them to be at a greater risk for asthma Arbex et al 2012 Pollutants in the environment expose our respiratory system to harmful chemicals and if left unchecked it will increase our risk of asthmaIn addition to air pollution being directly correlated to asthma air pollution is also correlated to lung cancer Burning of fossil fuels contributes to
