The European imperial conquest of the Americas was successful due to their social interactions of initial trusting relationships leading to easy exploitation whereas Portugals attempted conquest of china failed because their interaction was abrupt and forceful which offended the Chinese and caused them to fight back fiercelyThe Europeans were easily able to exploit the Aztecs due to their polite and trusting relationship Hernando Cortez went to the Aztec empire to conquer it and take all their gold because he was a conquistador but he implied friendship to try and gain their trust he told Montezuma that we are his friends There is nothing to fear Cortez implied friendship to the Aztecs so he could gain their trust Little did the Aztecs know that Hernando Cortez was a conquistador so he would conquer them not to be friends with themHe wants their trust so he can exploit them Meanwhile Columbus also wantedto use trust to exploit the Americans but the Native Americans not the Aztecs He gave thousands of good things which I had brought in order that they might conceive affection Columbus gave the Native Americans gifts to try to show them that he was friendly but he too like Cortez wanted gold for his country Spain The natives saw him as kind but he planned to return and exploit them and abuse their trust Throughout Europe explorers used trust to manipulate those weaker than them to become wealthy and thus obtain power The Americans lost due to their trust of the Europeans which led to their exploitation Cortez and his men gained Montezumas trust and friendship then They questioned him closely and then demanded gold Cortezs men used the trust that they had gained from the Aztecs and exploited them Montezuma thought they were friends so he trusted them until they took him hostage and took all of his gold They used this trust to take all that the Aztecs had Columbus also
