The people who attended the Federal Convention and made the Constitution were forming the new countrys government which was different from the tyranny of England The previous plan of American government called the Articles of Confederations was unsuccessful because it had no national government Nine out of the thirteen states had to agree to the Constitution for it to become law However the main problem in ratifying Constitution was a major conflict between the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists The Anti-Federalists opposed the Constitution while the Federalists supported itThe Federalists favored ratification of the constitution because they worked hard to plan three branches of government with elected representatives a National court and an executive branch The group consisted of united and well-organized people in contact with each other including members like George Washington Alexander Hamilton and James Madison Federalists thought there should be a central national government so America could be united more by electing a president to execute laws They wrote eighty-five essays named the Federalist which is the best explanation of the American government today Madison reasoned that no faction could control the government because of the separation of powers where each branch represents a different part of the people and no faction can control the entire government because it is too large Madison uses these writings to answer complaints of the Anti-Federalists who feared the federal government was supreme over the states Most Federalists apart from James Madison did not think a Bill of Rights was necessary since the system of checks and balances were enough but they agreed to it so the constitution could be ratifiedOn the other hand Anti-Federalists opposed the constitution because the American people had just fought a war to defend their rights and they did not want an intimidating government taking those rights away again They consisted of local and states politicians with uncoordinated activities and old Revolutionary figures like Patrick Henry and Samuel Adams Some of the
