The Middle Ages also known as the Dark Ages is when the feudal system flourished The feudal system was a type of government in which kings gave some of their power to lords so that power was spread out trough a series of people This system was considered a successThe feudal system was very unique to this time period The idea of divine right is what allowed the kings to rule over the people everyone believed that God put the king in a position of power and no one questioned it Alchin During this time there was a very limited amount of transportation people didnt often travel News and laws had a difficult time getting spread around to the people The kings were struggling to keep control over their people and because of this struggle the feudal system came into the picture The king selected the highest level of nobles known as barons and gives them a large piece of land to build manors The barons would pay fealty to the king and the king would protect them with the army Alchin The feudal system was successful during this period because it used personal alliances to bind society together The king and the barons had a mutually beneficial relationship that allowed the king to have control over and the people could live peacefully A manor was like a miniature kingdom all in itself There was a manor house which the lord and his family lived in and surrounding the manor would be a village filled with vassals serfs bailiffs and peasants Feudal The life of a peasant was a hard one Peasants worked on the land and would often cultivate up to 40 acres of land Peasants were taxed unfairly and did not even belong to themselves according to the law Feudal The whole family would live in a tiny house good food and clean water was scares which led to the wild spread
