What the hell did I get myself into was the first thought thatstreaked through my mind when my English professor read through thesyllabus All I could think about was this final 15 paged paper that Iam going to have to do Followed by the thought of what in the hell am Igoing to write about for 15 pages As I continued to read I found outthat it had to do with an unfamiliar culture or environment that I wouldgo and observe for about an hour and write about UnfamiliarcultureThis shouldnt be hard that is until I started thinkingabout potential places that made me uncomfortable or were unfamiliar Ispent a few days thinking of what environment I could write about untilI was passing through the student union headed to class when I hear aexcited voice dude how could you not love wow followed by a strongdistinct odor that resembled a locker room and tuna subs and cornchips Not only was the sound and smell new to me but the sight was outof the ordinary also Passing through I felt extremely unwelcome thisis it a perfect place i am sure I could easily find 15 pages ofunfamiliar things Going in to this environment I knew this was thegamers lounge and the gaming culture is definitely one of a kind Thegamers face a lot of stereotypes and I figured that by observing thesegamers I would be able to see these stereotypes first hand and see ifthere is actual truth to them The due date for my first observation and reflection was approachingquicker than I ever had expected I needed to get it done I must havepicked a good environment because I was extremely nervous Waiting tothe last minute I finally build up the courage to go to my siteApproaching the gamers lounge I got extremely nervous and walked pastthe room as if I was just passing through Obviously the thought havingto actually be in this room didnt
