Bob's feedback:
"Your essay does a good job of walking your reader through Thoreau's reasoning, but there are some areas that need to be addressed.
Starting with such a long quotation runs the risk of losing your audience before they even get to your own words.
You reproduce the entire quote at the beginning of the paper, then spend a lot of your time restating what your audience has already read. Rather than telling your audience, for example, that "Thoreau claims he would rather discover what impact his allegiance has..." you can simply begin your analysis.
You make some claims that seem questionable. For example, you state that Thoreau is stating facts, not opinions. However, Thoreau is clearly expressing his own desires and characterizing society through a biased lens. The claim that "the dollar is innocent" can't reasonably be viewed as a fact since assessing the guilt or innocence of an inanimate object is nonsensical. Rather, this claim is an artistic way to express the opinion that the financial system is not to blame for the problems Thoreau sees around him."
