Every governor has a residence in the state which they govern Iowas governor residence is Terrace Hill and it has many other names known as Hubbell Mansion Benjamin F Allen House and Iowa Governors Mansion The governors mansion measures 18000 square feet and 30 acres of land while sits on a hill overlooking downtown Des Moines The cost of this building was about 250000 and this is including the carriage house and original furnishing It had modern features for the time it was built and it included hot and cold water indoor restrooms also an elevator and gas lights The structure of the building is beautiful it has man designs in the building on the inside and out Terrace Hill was built by Benjamin Franklin Allen the first millionaire in Iowa as a home for his family They started to build this in 1866 and where continued to build and was finished in 1869 The architect for this project was William Boyington who was a popular architect in Chicago mainly There were other architects who helped him also and they were Jacob Weidenmann and JT Elletson Their style was mostly similar to a second empire design The building consists of 3 floors and they all have a unique design on each side of the building and on each floorWhen I look at the Governors Mansion it makes me feel like there more to this than meets the eyes I say this because the way it was built it has its own unique look from every angle when I first saw this I was confused because I couldnt tell where the entrance was because the tower was in the front and there was another pathway to the back which looked like the entrance and its different the other buildings with tower Where the towers are usually located in the back or far corners of the building this on has it in the front its kind of
