Growth and Inspiration in the Literary Hero's Journey

In this essay on the hero's journey, the student argues that the development of a protagonist mirrors the development of children into maturity. The student uses Aeneas (from Virgil's Aeneid, Sir Geraint (as portrayed in Tennyson's Idylls of the King), and Frodo Baggins (of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings) to show how moral development, resolution of personality flaw, and persistence are rewarded by each story's plot.
