Top of FormOne building that has left a lasting impression on me is the Hershey Theatre A building based on a Venetian villa and a Byzantine castle is not something expected in south central Pennsylvania and unexpected things have a habit of leaving impressions even if only for that reason alone but the real reason I find it so interesting is its use of light The Hershey Theatre feels like a totally different world especially at night when the exterior lights cut off the theatre from the rest of its surroundings The main lobby is huge space with a high ceiling The light of the chandlers and top of the columns draw my eyes up and make it feel gigantic It may be filled with people but it never feels over crowded because my eyes always focus over their heads The ceiling itself is covered with intricate carved plaster and murals and is definitely worth looking at and it makes me glad that light has been used to show off those details The interior foyer of the theatres ceiling completely covered in gold mosaic The difference between it and the higher brighter lighter ceiling of the lobby is startling The light glitters and grabs my attention Its a very in your face and dramatic effect The interior lobby is not actually a small space and although it feels very rich and sensual its also a bit I find it funny that even though the light in the interior foyer and the mezzanine lobby is reflected off gold that the tone and feeling created by it is so different The glittering light reflecting of the gold mosaic in the foyer is very in your face and dramatic Its intense breathtaking and almost feels a bit claustrophobic On the other hand the mezzanine lobbys light is reflected off gold leaf and is much more peaceful In most buildings a gold mosaic ceiling would probably be the most
