Poetry is written words which express meaning and bring life to those words Emily Dickinson is simply stating that poetry is something the reader has to feel without any feeling for the issue at hand one can not truly understand poetry If you do not have similar emotions as the writer you can not understand what message the writer is trying to convey to you Through the complicated twists of literal and figurative meanings a poems true beauty can be explored through feelings Hidden Meanings speaks of hatred towards ones mother in the first line The first line draws the reader into the poem As a reader one wonders why fairy tale characters hate their mothers There is however an underlying meaning that has to be explored As a reader one is drawn into the lives of Hansel and Jack and can relate to the frustration one can have with authority figures Life in reality as well as in the poem is a magical journey entered into by everyone You never know what will happen during the course of your life It is the unknown that makes life so magical Dickinsons quote exemplifies the passion a writer can put into a poem and Stuart backs up her claim Fairy tales are supposed to be sweet nice and have a moral but in Hidden Meanings Stuart shows the corruption of these wholesome fairy tales and reflects it on how society is and how life is not as pleasant when every fairy tale does not have a happy ending Stuart throws the reader into a stage of conflict and wants the reader to see life as its own magical journey and to go out and enjoy the life they have instead of living fantasy lives through fairy tales Hidden Meanings makes a reader cringe think and examine their own lives through feeling and understanding of the issue at hand Theres been a Death in the Opposite House
