For my understanding years after film established itself as a popular entertainment medium it became an aristocracy excluding common people from participating It became a world of its own just granting access to those that were in the know Hollywood got comfortable and film making suffered The films became repetitive and dull and for those who dared to do something different and innovative it became a nightmare This is what I believe Coppola meant with professionalism The control that this exerted over the medium strangled the creativity innovation and diversity that are part of any medium and any art form Film making needed to become independent free from the control of a few and be available to all That is what the 8 millimeter video camera did and what digital media and the internet are reestablishing today The moment film became art was when people were able to genuinely express coherent ideals and emotions through it without hesitation with boundless simplicity Its in a similar way that I approach any art medium particularly photography I strive for simplicity Every time I take on an assignment or project I distill it to its simplest most cohesive form But simplicity doesnt mean easy in fact I believe its at times even more challenging to work this way For example all of the Creative Pages Ive submitted where taken with a Canon point n shoot and a taped up five dollar tripod
