Downtown Grand Rapids holds a free event every year that draws thousands of people and artiest from all over to come visit This event is called ArtPrize Its a contest that anyone eighteen or older can enter their art into and let the public vote on It starts September 18 2013 to October 6 2013 The public has from September 18-28th to vote The first place Entry will receive 200000 the second place Entry 75000 the third place Entry 50000 and fourth through tenth place entries get 5000 each This is not only a fun event for people to get out and see all the art but for artiest to show people their talent I believe that Tired Pandas Chimpanzee and Cosmo-Joe were the must see of 2013 ArtPrize You definitely dont want to miss outFirst the must see I would recommend is a 6 foot tall Black and white panda made out of all recycled tires This sculpture is called Tired Pandas by Nick Jakubiak located in the BOB parking lot The white painted tires rolled up into tubes and placed all over the body for a hair affect It had tan cement claws that come to a curl at the tips Black circles around its eyes like it had been punched It had glazed over chocolate brown glass eyes with a pupil that just about took up most of the space Charcoal black tires for its shoulders arms and legs His stomach consisted of ghost white painted tires that laid downward with a rubbery texture almost making it like the paint had just been sprayed A vibrant green limb of a tree laid in his right arm it made the smell of a bamboo forest pop into my headNext I believe the flat drawing with ink wash and pencil hit my top three Chimpanzee by Collin Burns really caught my eye This drawing was done with so much detail Its 49in by 30
