In the past few decades the population of Asian Americans has increased rapidly making up a larger portion of the United States population This population consists of first and second generation Asian Americans who immigrates to the United States and who are born in the US respectively These immigrants who are originally from countries including Japan China Vietnam India Taiwan Korea Singapore Tailandetc are considered Asian Americans The racial issues regarding Asian Americans in the United States have always been an important topic to investigate In this paper I hope to explore the Asian American experience and to portray the life of both first and second generation Asian American this issue is particularly relevant as it carries out the racial concerns of one of the main ethnicity in the United States I would be looking closely into the statistics regarding their education level occupation wages and other categories psychologically I would like to investigate the identity and characteristics of Asian Americans through several interviews and research As an international student form Taiwan I wouldnt consider myself Asian American however I found out that I have similar experience to them which leads me to the idea of investigating this research topic In the past few months I have read several books written by Asian American authors about their experiences here in the United States after reading the books I became curious about whether Asian American students at Lehigh has comparable experiences In addition I have always looked at the issue of Asian American immigrants from the perspectives of second generation Asian Americans I consider this research project an opportunity for me to understand and explore the experience of first generation Asian American I am interested in knowing some of the hardships and difficulties they went through when they first immigrate to the United States as well as some of the things they enjoyed here The final reason that I want to learn about this topic
