In The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks the author Rebecca Skloot does an amazing job organizing the incredible story about Henrietta Lacks the women behind the HeLa cells Rebecca Skloot put the story together in an easy to follow very informative manner She not only gave very descriptive background detail about everything the reader needed to know to fully understand the situation but also connects the scientific side of the story to the more personal family side She gave readers the chance get to know Henrietta as a person not just the cells that changed the lives of millions The reader gets to experience what Henriettas life must have been like especially when she first got cancer Also when Rebecca herself attempted to have a conversation with the Lacks family for the first time Skloot brilliantly connects the past misfortunes of the Lacks family to their present day experience of dealing with the growth of popularity regarding the HeLa cells It was obvious that the author developed a good relationship to the Lacks family because the story was told truthfully with the correct information She touched on the deeper side of the HeLa story She was not afraid to bring up every point even making sense of the situation regarding the racism towards Henrietta and her family As an author she linked the personal events of Henrietta and her family to the scientific world of discoveries made years later with her cells Although Rebecca Skloot presented accurate information and gave the reader a good idea of what events took place she does not show a strong standpoint on some of the main arguments offered in the book However on the subject of whatever or not it was right for the Lacks family to be compensated for their mothers cells she has a strong opinion that they should in fact be paid for the use of Henriettas cells
