The contributions of George Melies the Lumiere brothers and Edison played a huge role in film making Edison and the Lumiere brothers were responsible for the technical and the ingenuity that made film possible in those daysWhile George Melies was the first person to discover that film could be manipulated and had imaginative potential to tell a story Edison was the first sole producer of motion pictures in the world He found a new way of filming that people found intriguing Before Melies Edison was the first to record real life activity like kissing sneezing and even a real life boxing match whereas Melies was the first to present nudity in films Apres le Bal The Lumiere brothers took a different approach instead they took their camera and filmed everyday activity such as people walking and climbing stairs This made their films look a lot less narrative than Edisons The Lumiere brothers had created a new and improved version of Edisons kinestoscope that used less film and was a lot lighter than his and produced less noise Unlike George Melies they were quick to get a patent in both France and Egland They invented the dry plate which contributed to the process of photography this discovery helped boost both their reputation and business They also produced the first Auto Chrome Plate that made photographs more colorful George Melies had a background in magic and illusions that he later used to portray in his films People were astonished at how imaginative his films were most in particular was the Trip to the Moon That film was perhaps the most pirated film in those days he did not receive much compensation from his work that he deserved but he continued to make over 500 films At the time most film makers made single shot films whileMelies from experimenting found that by taking shots and editing them in chronological order made the film even longer and told
