The cold crisp air cut the edges of my nose I could smell the mildew coming off the auburn and mustard yellow leaves The wind gave a nice breeze to the 50-degree autumn air It was the perfect day to snuggle up under my down comforter sip on my favorite tea cinnamon spice and watch the chick flick The Holiday For some reason that movie always makes my worthless sense of being somewhat meaningful It was a day that was so beautiful yet so depressing at the same time The wonder of my existence on this earth took over my mind I walked up the cobble stone pathway Through the opaque glass on the sides of the olive green front door I could see my four-year-old brother screaming and running around naked into the kitchen I opened the door to a creamy pumpkin and spice smell that swarmed around my body and into my nostrils I knew right then and there that it was a great day Mom doesnt make grandmas special creamy pumpkin pie recipe unless theres a reason like last time dad came home from Iraq I could not stand the million pound bag on my back so I did what my usual daily routine was I went straight to the kitchen let the bricks of knowledge fall straight to the floor next to the homework table AKA The kitchen table and went straight to the fridge Swim practice leaves my stomach growling and begging for food Sometimes Im lucky enough to get home in time for dinner but I usually dont get home until six-thirty and mom has dinner ready every day at six In my family its either you eat at six with every one else or you eat the left overs alone This particular day it didnt look like mom cooked though which was very unusual Around six-forty the only person to be found was
