How would you feel when you have to wait for something you really really want What if it was something you couldnt live without Today I would like to talk about the need for organ donors how you can become an organ donor after you die and benefits of being an organ donor I personally think organ donating is a very good thing to do because it saves lives of people that are in need of a new organ First I want to tell you about the need for organ donors Many people around the world are needing organ transplants everyday According to Jane Green and Jim Lee authors of Organ Donations in Minnesota the number of donors has gone down to 23 As of October 19 2005 more than 89790 people were on the waiting list for a suitable donor organ More than 12700 people wait five or more years to get a matching organ Experts with Donate A Life estimate that 17 people die everyday because they are unable to get a donor organ in time Next I would like to tell you how you can become an organ donor To become and organ donor the first thing you must do is register with your state donor registry Signing up for the registry ensures that your name is recorded with and organizations who will guarantee that your organ donation wishes are carried out after death The second step is to indicate your intention on your drivers license Many states use a pink dot on the back of your license to indicate that you wish to be an organ donor The next time you go to renew your license you should definitely talk to your DMV about signing up to be an organ donor The last and most important step is to talk to your family Even if you sign a donor card stating that you wish to be an organ donor
