In a large portion of schools in Texas sex education is not taught or a given class in secondary school This has led to a growing number of misinformed teens going to college without the knowledge of how to practice safe sex The problem that starts with secondary education does not cease but continues because colleges similar to UT Dallas have not truly emphasized the practice of safe sex possibly to avoid offending religious groups However UT Dallas has offered a one hour small session that you can attend but such information as a freshman has only been mentioned once UT Dallas has avoided talking about sex which is an issue that grows problems without consistent information being readily available for all students Sex education is important in UT Dallas because the lack of information can lead to increased pregnancies AIDS and other STDs but an informed community can have the complete opposite effectUT Dallas is an ever growing university with a plethora of problems to accompany it besides sex education Many schools feel the same and instead have the students organize a sex week where they talk about all the misconceptions of sex for both genders There are prestigious schools like Yale and Harvard that hold the sex weeks and have gained some wind behind their sails into other universities but still have not garnered a majority because of the lack of support Some people of religious backgrounds believe this information would be immoral because it would give the image that more sex is fine with protection and contraceptives However this method of approaching sex morally and religiously has been proven by many researchers to lead to more unsafe and uneducated sex But with my parents my father being Catholic and my mother being Baptist I was given the talk For example when I was in late middle school to early high school my parents with no shame were very straightforward on what is
