Sex and Violence on TV Sex and violence have become a very popular part of television and the media these days The number of dedicated viewers to shows such as Jerry Springer and Alley Mcbeal continue to grow every day But why is it that people are so traumatized by these types of shows Is it because of the educational value or the intellectual conversations No of course not The reason why is because violence and sex are what we base our lives on nowadays People like to turn on the TV and see a pretty woman a handsome man or see people degrading themselves by fighting one another It is amazing to me to see how TV has changed over the past few years and even more amazing to see how many people are actually attracted to the filth and sexism It seems to me that the more cursing and nudity on a show the higher the ratings become We need to start to ask ourselves some important question Can violence and nudity influence people to commit crimes Are the effects of watching TV violence brief or lasting Is TV as important a factor in development in social violence as economic poverty bad schools date raps and young kids thinking sexual ways way too young Television can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and behavior in children Unfortunately though most of todays television programming is violent or sexual Several studies conducted by UCLA have found that children may become immune to the horror of violence or nudity They then gradually accept violence and sex as a way to solve problems imitate what they see and identify with the certain characters victims and victimizers httpwwwuclaeducurreeneviolenceiiidhtm Television is being blamed for children becoming violent later in life because it is an easy scapegoat In many families television has become the electronic baby sitter a replacement for quality time with parents Children
