The Bird and The Bees do it Why not Teach It President Bush Everyday a horrifying amount of teenagers become pregnant in just the state of Arizona Arizona is only one of the many states that take funding from the government to use towards abstinence only sexual education Less than five years ago every state had applied and received money for abstinence based programs but in the end three sates did not use the money Heins 20 Those states realized the lack of HIV education and noticed that students who were gay lesbian or already sexually active would not receive any help With a change towards the better and towards a more comprehensive sex ed curriculum teens will have a place and a person to ask their many questions to they will be educated on what types of contraceptives they can use and they will know what the consequences of not using those contraceptives are A law was made in 1996 to try and eliminate welfare and increase conservative thinking among Americans in poverty Heins 20 That law uses eight ideas for abstinence based education one of which was children of single moms or unmarried couples are implicitly told that their parents have suffered harmful psychological and physical effects from sex outside of marriage Heins 20 Programs are instructed not to talk about sex before marriage unless it is in a harmful manner A couple of the programs offered even suggested death as a result of premarital sex They use fear methods as well as religious methods to emphasize the just say no idea Heins 20 Think about when you were five years old and maybe you had a little sister or brother just be born You go to your mother or father and ask them how was the baby made What do they tell you In most cases they say wait until you are older or tell you some story about a stork Now
